It is with our highest regard that we recommend Maurizio Buccioni for all travelers heading to Rome or the nearby surrounding area. We had the pleasure of having Maurizio guide us around the Rome area on our last vacation to Italy and this experience truly made the trip for us. Maurizio is very knowledgeable of the Roman history as well as the current trends in Italy making our time with him both enjoyable and informative. His rates are reasonable especially when you factor in the cost of what taxis would have been for similar travel around the city. I have recommended Maurizio to several friends traveling to Italy and they have all agreed that he is a valuable addition to an enjoyable experience that will leave anyone happy and thankful to have know him. We were in Rome earlier this year for a 1 day cruise stop and because we had never been to Rome before we decided to hire a private car to help us make the most of the day. After researching a few companies we opted for MB Tours run by Maurizio as they seemed to offer exactly what we were looking for! He was great at keeping in touch — he answered all my emails very quickly – within a few hours ( sometimes within a few minutes).
I don’t use credit cards and Maurizio was still happy to accept our booking, advising me just pay the driver either at the start of the tour or the end — whichever I felt more comfortable with.
The tour was fantastic as Maurizio will personalize it to suit your needs and we saw everything we wanted to and we even some places we didn’t even know existed (i.e. Santa Sabina – a beautiful old church in the hills of Rome, the place were Mussolini was executed after the war and even where Sophia Loren lives).
Even although our ship was late docking & in the pouring rain we were met at the bottom of the gangway by Marco, our lovely driver, escorted to a top of the range Mercedes car parked about 20 yards away and we were out of the docks & on our way to Rome whilst others were still being directed to coaches, etc.
We started at the Colosseum and then had coffee & the best paninis ever at a great little Italian coffee house before setting off for the other sights including the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, etc. Marco took us to an great little restaurant for lunch — absolutely amazing food. Starter/ mains/ wine for 3 people — less than 30 Euros including tip.
We were glad we did not hire a guide – saved us a load of cash and Marco knew SO much about the city and its history.
Maurizio can even arrange tickets to most of the sites/ attractions and they cost less than buying them at the sites with the added bonus that we didn’t have to wait in queues – we were taken straight to the front of the line and in we went – while others waiting — we saved so much time!
We never felt rushed and nothing was too much trouble for Marco. On the way back, while Mum & I relaxed in the back of the car, Marco & my other half put the world to rights discussing everything from football to Italian politics and everything in between.
We were back at the ship at the exact time we had requested when booking – about 30 minutes before the coaches were due back! We left Marco with hugs, warm handshakes and a promise to return to Rome again soon – it was like leaving an old friend behind. He even gave Mum a lovely little gift of a postcard book — to remember her time in the Eternal City!
We were really impressed with this company and we even received an e-mail from Maurizio when we returned home to ensure everything was as we expected – a nice touch.
I would thoroughly recommend MBTours — if you are looking for a great experience in Rome you won’t be disappointed!!!
